Abstract
We describe here two new species of the genus Ceratomia, C. mooseri n. sp. based on three specimens collected in the State of Jalisco, and C. paltingi sp. n. based on a small series collected in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. The habitus and male genitalia of these insects are compared with those of three allied species, C. hoffmanni Mooser, 1942, C. sonorensis Hodges, 1971, and C. undulosa (Walker, 1856). The sequencing of the mitochondrial gene CO1 clearly shows these insects are isolated from other species (barcoded) of the genus and reinforces our descriptions. The validity of the Texan subspecies, Ceratonia undulosa polingi Clark, 1929, is discussed. The caterpillar of Dolbogene hartwegii (Butler, 1875) is illustrated for the first time and its host plant identified : TECOMA STANS, Bignoniaceae.
